Job Service Employers Committee offers scholarship to Helena-area seniors

HELENA – The Job Service Employers Committee (JSEC) is offering a financial scholarship to high school seniors in the Helena and surrounding areas. 

The Mike Bullock Memorial Scholarship offers an award of $500 to high school seniors aiming to further their education through a course of study at a post-high school level. The training is not limited to traditional college or university course work and can include any trade or technical school attendance. Award recipients are eligible for a second year of assistance if they are still enrolled in qualifying post-high school education. 

Bullock, father of Governor Steve Bullock, served as the President of Helena Industries and, as the Extended Learning Coordinator for the Helena Public Schools. While he died in 1998, Bullock’s work promoting vocational education to Montana students has continued through this memorial scholarship, funded by JSEC. 

Applicants must be a senior at a Helena, Townsend, Boulder, Lincoln, White Sulphur Springs, or Augusta school. Students attending private schools or are home-schooled are also eligible for the scholarship.  

Additional scholarship criteria include:

•    A demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
•    Some history of paid or voluntary work experience
•    Minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5

Scholarship applications must be submitted by March 6, 2020.
